EDWARD H. JAMES
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This
scholarship is in honor of the late Edward H. James, a distinguished
educator and long-time Oxford resident.
The funds will be awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing a
teaching career.
Mr. James who died in 2007, was retired from the Christiana School
District in Delaware where he was a teacher and principal. He served on
the historical commission, and was past president of the Oxford Area
Teachers Association and the Oxford Area Athletic Association.
Coincidentally, he was principal of the John R. Downes School in Newark,
Delaware, when Bright Beginnings’s owner Mary Hawkesworth Fasick
attended the school. Then in another unique coincidence, an old
newspaper clipping was discovered from a 1974 Newark, Delaware Newspaper
(below) where Mary is pictured with Mr. James after receiving an award
for winning a national PTA contest.
