As part of its community outreach efforts, Bright Beginnings is
actively involved with the Oxford area “Spirit of Giving Luncheon”. This
event helps raise funds for Neighborhood Services Center which in turns
helps provide food, heating oil, and medical prescriptions for needy
residents of Chester County. The event was
started in 1990 by Jim and Mary McLeod. Bright Beginnings teamed up with
them in 2005 and this year the Oxford Area High School came on board as
another partner. Student groups, teachers, and support staff from OAHS
were involved and some students even made it their graduation project.
Bright Beginnings personnel served as mentors for the high school
students who learned how to conduct a fundraising event. Even Bright
Beginning students, some as young as two years old, joined in the
effort. These budding Picasso’s decorated placemats that included
business advertisements with the artwork and became collectible
souvenirs. The 2008 luncheon more than doubled proceeds from any
previous year, and next year’s goal is to double even that amount..
